My name is Ioan Vancea, the friends call me Ionut. I grew up in Viseu de Jos, Maramures, Romania, and since 1997 I moved to Timisoara, a beautiful city on the river Bega.
I am married to the beautiful Ani (a short name, nickname, for Anisoara), and after spending 3 years in Dresden, Germany, we moved in Loughborough, UK, for two years, to do my PhD, and now we decided to come back in Germany where we currently are living/working.
Till August, 2008, I worked as researcher at Max-Planck Institute, Physics of Complex Systems, Department of Biological Physics. I was doing my PhD to Loughborough University, Department of Mathematical Sciences. My domain of interest is Computational Physics, Scientific Computing. Right now, I am working as researcher to Forschungzentrum Juelich, Germany.
I had a MSc diploma in Theoretical and Computational Physics and after that I decided to follow the Postuniversitary Courses (Master) at Faculty of Mathematics, Department of Computer Science. I like computers and I remember the years, during the High School, when I worked with PCTools, Norton Utilities, Dosshell, Doskey and I tried to learn to programming in Basic, Basica, GWBasic, Qbasic. Since 1997, when I came to Faculty of Physics, I learned by myself more about this domain.
I have to give thanks Gheorghe Ardelean, which gave me answers to my questions and he is one of the teachers which helped me to learn FreeBSD and more other things regarding the computers.
UPDATE: NO MUCH TIME RIGHT NOW: Most of my spare time is dedicated to remote systems administration and web development. There is www.vansolutions.ro which is my IT company. Van Solutions offers full professional networking solutions and web design services .
I’m also interested in Parallel and Distributed Computing (my Master Thesis at Faculty of Computer Science – “Parallel Methods for Solving Partial Differential Equations”).
I like to see new places but I haven’t travelled much yet.

Other things I enjoy doing include: Martial Arts (Shotokan Karate), fitness/body building, reading books, photography (see my PhotoBlog) and playing football, tennis, table tennis.
The purpose of this blog/site is two-fold – a showcase for my work, as well as serving as a outlet for my ideas and experiences related to different things.
