Yes, you are right, it is a new market for them. It has microphone if I remember correctly. Anyway, why to carry three devices when you can have just two: iphone and macbook

I reckon Apple created this device in such a way to avoid consumers (fanboys is too strong word to have in the same time an iPhone and a macbook pro. They do not want to to stop buying laptops or iphones but just spend another $500 so they create a new market.
This is why doesn’t have the build in microphone, camera and GPS (to make you buy the iphone) and is probably cumbersome for long typing to keep you buying laptops from them.
They do not make enough money if they switch you from their laptops or their iphones but want you to pay for another device.

In another year you’ll see friend with an iphone, ipad and a macbook pro they they are not at home and from this Apple made another $500 then making you use only 2 devices

Yeah this sucks, although you can bet it was left out so that they can include it in iPad v2. I’ll probably wait until then.

AFAIK it /can/ run Skype. And Apple’s updated their SDK so that VoIP is allowed over 3G networks.

USB in is available but you have to use an adapter.

# NO card reader

Why would you pay $200 extra up front for more storage if it included a card reader? Yeah, it should really have one.

# NO MS Office (for some people)

Maybe the version of iWork released for the iPad will have decent MS Office support.

# NO terminal/console (sometimes I need ssh)

There are a good number of ssh clients in the app store.

# NO flash

Yeah, annoying, but flash sucks CPU cycles and would kill the battery 3X faster, which is probably why they didn’t bother.

# locked in AppStore (so, NO firefox, opera, chrome)

So you want a Google device then it sounds like.

# NO multitasking

Yeah, although I can easily see this in a future OS rev.

# glossy screen for reading books (no way)

Maybe not in direct sunlight… Still looks like the best eBook reader by far. I like my iPhone for books more than I like the Kindle.

Doesn’t sound like it, but who knows…

# NO great deal for money

$500 really isn’t so bad for a computer with a completely modern interface. Yes it’s easy to come up with a laundry list of what it can’t do, but what it does do it does differently, and in a very good way. I have to try one out soon–I have a feeling that mundane stuff like web browsing on it will be a very nice experience. No mouse, no clicking, no RSI.

To be honest, I don’t really care for what the iPad is made, what I wanted to say is that I don’t need it, but yes, it doesn’t mean that is not suitable for the others.

I was expected to have a better kitchen device then all the others I have already.

-NO cooffee machine
-NO Toaster
-NO Refridgerator
-NO bowl for my fruits
-NO knife

so, its a HUGE whatever without a kitchen device part.

I don’t like it either. But it is strange that I somehow have the feeling that we both did not get the idea of waht the iPad is made for.
